Being an eBay Education
Specialist is almost second nature to Mardi
Timm of Racine, Wisconsin,
who holds a Masters in Educational Technology and has been buying and selling
on eBay with her husband since 1998.
A corporate trainer and adult-education instructor for the last 20
years, Mardi got her start on eBay in 1998 while researching and writing a
collector’s guide. “We were writing a book on the Johnson Smith mail-order
company and needed to expand our collection of novelties and catalogs,” recalls
Timm.
In the
last 11 years, Mardi’s passion for eBay has never wavered. She is an active
buyer, seller and eBay educator in her area. Mardi is one if a very small
group of Certified Education Specialists trained by eBay. In 2005 she
was selected to be in the pool of eBay
University Instructors. Mardi was
also one of 20 Education Specialists who received special training at eBay in
order to become a “Holiday Gift Helper” and to offer free holiday-buying
seminars in her community in the fall of 2004 and again in 2005. In
2006 she attained the level of Certified Education Specialist and
Business Consultant. Currently there are only 30 Certified Education
Specialists in the country.
Mardi has had many interesting experiences on
eBay. The most memorable thing she has ever bought is an original Whoopee
Cushion from the early 1930's. The most memorable listing she ever did was on
April 2, 2005. She presented a seminar with another Education Specialist,
Monica Doyle, and at the end of the seminar they listed the only remaining
Frank Lloyd Wright hotel on eBay for 10 Million Dollars.
